The People's Open University was founded in 1959 as Peple's University, and it operated under that name until 1997, when it got its current name.

It is located in a building designed in 1965 by the prominent Ivanić architect Krešimir Rubetić in collaboration with Božidar Kolonić.

The People's Open University is one of the cultural centers of Ivanić-Grad, which organizes numerous exhibitions, creative workshops, public forums, book promotions and concerts, and is the central institution for theater and cinema performances and lifelong education.
