It would be impossible to imagine the fortress without the design
Soldiers kept the former Ivanić fortress safe. The fortress was also safe thanks to the builders who carefully drafted the plans. This scale model was created thanks to an old plan from the year 1700.

The river Lonja is the only water ally of the former Fortress
How many fish and frogs were there when the moats around the fortress were filled with water! The only water wall left is the faithful river Lonja - home to another resident. Can you guess which one?

There’s proof the fortress existed!
Look, there’s a flag at the city hall! Can you see the defense tower on the coat of arms? Can you imagine water lilies growing from the wet soil around the fortress, just like the emblem shows? Notice the sign on the emblem on the building. Do you now believe the Ivanić fortress (tvrđa) existed?

Where does the name Ivanić come from?
Saint John (Ivan) the Baptist lent his name to the town of Kloštar Ivanić, and then to Ivanić-Grad. The church of St Peter stands on the location of a former St John’s chapel.

It sure is old, but it's not the oldest one.
You might hear the locals using the name Stara škola (Old school building) for the Museum of Ivanić-Grad. However, that is not the first school. The oldest school in Ivanić opened in 1750 in the former military base.

After-school shade
You can tell this park was designed by a professional gardener. That happened more than 100 years ago. Even before that, enthusiastic teachers created a green space around the former school.

It was lively here, and even more so across the bridge!
When you explore the park, continue the walk through the old part of Ivanić. Instead of the road, imagine a canal full of water that separated the fort from the village, and a bridge that connected them. That’s how it was.
