Church of St John the Baptist and the monastery, home to Carmelite sisters, have been through a lot. For example, in the times of Ottoman invasion, the monastery became a fortress, and the church was a gunpowder storage.

The pharmacy has been here since 1811. The tradition of the healing preparations is much longer. It was started by the Franciscan monks centuries ago.

Take a short walk towards the true center of this town - the church of St Mary from the 13th century. It guards a miraculous painting and a book containing two hundred pages of incredible testimonials about miracles from the 1700s.

“A prayer and a pledge were followed by a grand miracle! He became healthy, and he walked, and he exited the church by himself, leaving his crutches in the church as proof.” This is an entry from the Book of Miracles about Grgur Petheo.

Grgur Petheo, the same one whose limp was cured, served as a military captain here in Kloštar-Ivanić. At the time, his men accidentally blew the fortress up!
